Being Self-Employed: Paid-To-Read Sites Update

Since my last article regarding generating money via reading emails and ads [Why Would Anybody Pay Me To Surf The Net?], I’ve come to learn quite a bit about the ‘paid to read email’ industry! It is quite fascinating and something that an energetic, resourceful WebPreneur may want to invest in. . .

After my first entry into ‘paid-2-read’ the first thing I noticed was that there were countless PTR sites using the sites I was signed up for to solicit members! Some of them were offering very high sign-up bonuses [a few of which I couldn't resist] that seemed absolutely impossible to be true. I joined two such sites just to see how it would pan out come pay out time. . .

The two PTR sites that I joined had less than 2,000 ’stated’ members on the home page. I say ’stated’ because I’m not sure just how truthful those [or any site's] stats are, yet the caveat for the high sign-up bonus was for all those that joined before the membership hit the 5,000 mark. Upon signing up, I went scrambling to alert my friends to the possibility of high earnings by clicking and reading – as long as the sites were legit of course.

What I’ve found over the past 2+ weeks is that those very entry level sites have grown their membership exponentially, however the most interesting find is that the quality [as in deep advertising budgets] of some of THEIR advertisers and sponsors has increased right along with the ability to deliver 5,000 plus dedicated, opt-in, potential consumers!

Me being me, I had already looked into some of the software being used by the sites: that generally can be found at the bottom of the home page listed something like, “powered by ___.” Even with that information, I was still very skeptical that any site could/would pay out the type of minimums these sites boast. Now that I see how a site can actually go from 1 to 350 members in 32 – 48 hours and grow by leaps and bounds in a very short time [mostly by advertising on other PTR sites :)] it is now very evident that barring greed and chicanery, these sites can easily afford to pay the advertised payout minimums!

So, I decided to do a Winzy search for ‘PTR’ just to see what type of comments would come up. . . What I found actually knocked my socks off: there are software programs being sold that allow the ‘clickers’ or ‘readers’ to have all of their PTR sites downloaded to their desktop or central inbox for ease of management, tracking earnings, and many other tasks. Paid-2-Read and Paid-2-Click [PTR and PTC] is EXTREMELY big business and appears to be the next big online advertising vehicle.

Again, I must state that the genius of PTR and PTC is top notch: pay people to sit and read ads and emails about products, services and whatever else! It’s cheaper than a Super Bowl commercial and via the internet has about the same audience capacity! Go click on that!

In the beginning of the article I mused that anyone looking to launch a Money ‘Da’ Easy Way eBusines/eCommerce venture would do well to consider PTR. As my time and energy resources are limited, I am and would positively be available as a consultant and even co-partner in such a venture. You know where to find me. . .

A Simple Method to Marketing to a Broader Audience

Being in business entails not only providing a good, service or product it also entails bookkeeping, in some cases inventory management, shipping and handling and the ever necessary/ongoing need for effective marketing. For the most part, my expertise lies with eCommerce or eBusiness and conducting business/communications online. That being said let’s focus on RSS as an effective and useful marketing tool for both business and sheer communication purposes.

What it is:

RSS, also known as Really Simple Syndication, is a Web feed format that ‘broadcasts’ frequently updated websites. These can be blogs, newsletters, articles, photo galleries and even ‘daily specials!’ In really simple syntax, RSS is a method of sharing your updated content from your website throughout the entire internet population.

Usefulness:

RSS provides an extremely useful benefit of automatically alerting your current readers/customers along with the search engines [where new readers/customers, etc. are looking for you] of all new, aka fresh, material that you have to offer.

While blogging in it’s purest form requires submitting posts to distribution services, utilizing RSS makes this simpler while it increases your search engine rankings. In the world of pro-blogging and blogging in general if you want your material to reach a larger audience, search engine rankings are high priority. WebPreneurs will find RSS mandatory for marketing goods, services or products to create and maintain high search engine rankings: high rankings can guarantee a steady stream of potential customers to your site as well as keep satisfied customers abreast of new developments with your business!

How to implement:

Many of the best website development software products come with an RSS feed ‘burner’ option built in! You simply build your site, click on the ‘add RSS feed’ option and the code is generated allowing your uploaded site to go ‘live’ right from the server! If you are a blogger and are using any of the more popular blogging platforms/software such as WordPress, Blogger, b2Evolution, and TypePad to name a few, they already have the RSS feed option built in. Additionally, WordPress and b2Evolution can be used on your own server, i.e., as your website software with the RSS feature and many more useful marketing options.

There are also ‘feed burner’ services that you provide your ‘url’ to which then supplies you with a code to past to your site/page that you want to be syndicated. They also ‘list’ your ‘url’ info in their ‘lineup’ of feed subscribers. Some useful free services include RapidFeeds, FeedBurner and FeedForAll.

For those of you that are ‘do-it-yourselfer’ there is XML code that can be inserted into your site’s pages that you want syndicated. A good site to get the code from is, About.com and there are countless others to be found with a simple search.

Including RSS to your online presence whether it be your business website, blog, Digg, MySpace or other outlet will promote you automatically in ways that mimic the world war II newsreel that preceded the feature presentation at the movies! It’s nearly as effective as having a radio or TV ad without the cost! In a nutshell, its Syndication Simple and Real!

Don’t Be Fooled: Reading ads and surfing the net is BIG Business

As you all know, I’ve been working diligently exploring simple, FREE and easy ways to generate income online thru various opportunities. Recently I shared some information regarding reading emails and/or ads in order to earn money while surfing the internet.

Someone asked me if there was, “REALLY companies that PAID people to read emails and ads???” I found this to be an interesting, yet all to common response to the notion that personal time and attention is EXTREMELY precious therefor making both very valuable! I began thinking about the countless looks of sheer amazement I get from people all the time when during the course of a conversation they mention their favorite TV or radio commercial and I have absolutely no awareness of the commercial and frequently the product! Even when I watched TV for 2 to 3 hours a day a couple of times a week, I NEVER watched commercials on purpose! Commercials provided bathroom, refrigerator, check-what’s-cooking-on-the-stove or see-if-the-baby is awake breaks – while a few could be entertaining my patience for scripted performances to separate me from my money was then, and still is practically zero! Of course these days, I only see commercials when visiting family or friends as I’ve given away my ‘idiot box’ more than 2 years ago and I manage to find other creative ways to amass my quota of idiot clutter without television. . .

At any rate, while searching for free software with which to generate mailing lists along with creating a newsletter I happened upon a site, Zinester, that offered both mailing list services AND directory listing for newsletters, aka ezines! In order for me to get a few good ideas for my newsletter layout, etc. I decided to click on some of the ezine listings in the Zinester free directory and what did I find? A very interesting and lucrative pay-to-read email and advertising site that I hadn’t come across before.

The ezine author was giving rave reviews of the site, Inbox Dollars and I had to check it out for myself: it was purported that the payout for screening some of the advertisers was anywhere from $1 to $5 and the minimum cashout was $5000.00! What actually challenged me was the fact that she also mentioned it took her less than 2 weeks to generate $5000.00 from reading emails and/or ads!

While investigating Inbox Dollars [of course I signed up :)], I noticed that the majority of THEIR advertisers were, drum roll maestro, paid to read email/ads companies! This of itself was eye opening yet the real astonishing thing was that nearly 75% of these sites were paying $1 and upwards of $20 to read emails and/or ads! All I kept thinking was, “How are these sites such a secret?” and “Why aren’t more people reading emails and/or ads for cash?”

As I signed up for more of the higher paying ’screening’ sites, I began musing over how it was they could afford to pay such decent amounts of money to their membership. Naturally the answer revealed itself by the third sign up. . .

These sites are “billboards” of the new millennium and their ‘hook’ is they can GUARANTEE a set number of ad/email views to their customers [advertisers] based on their membership rolls! Many of them are scrambling to amass 10s of 1000s of members because, naturally the more members they have, the higher the ad rates they can charge! And with their sites being accessed by 100s to 1000s of members daily, most of these sites can afford to share the ad revenues to the members – easily!

So that’s the ‘catch.’ Offer sign up bonuses to members, I saw bonuses as high as $8000 delimited to the first 5000 members, etc., get the ‘viewer’ levels high as quickly as possible and offer/deliver happy to oblige audiences to potential advertising clients! Brilliant! [Why didn't I think of that???] If you’re still wondering how that financially plays out here’s a likely scenario:

  1. Initially sell ad space at a rate of $7 per ‘click.’

  2. Recruit ‘viewers’ by offering to pay them $2 per ‘view.’

  3. When membership reaches critical mass, say 1000 members increase the ad space cost.

  4. There’s absolutely NO personnel, office space, etc. overhead because the entire business is maintained online and every ‘member’ is an independent contractor – not an employee, plus the pc/laptop that has the site on it could easily be in someone’s bedroom, kitchen, garage, etc.

  5. The cost of server space to host these websites is less than $7 per month so even with only 20 clients at the initial $7 rate, an almost 2000% profit has been made in the first month alone.

  6. Paying out 1 to 2% of the profit will definitely offset taxes and still leave a hefty profit for the sites’ owners.

Now while my scenario is very far from being mathematically exact, the ratios and format are clearly what’s taking place. Therefor, paying people to read emails and/or ads is something that any smart, savvy and shrewd WebPreneur would do in order to run a successful internet ‘advertising agency!’ This is internet marketing at its BEST: guaranteed audience for the clients; paid membership for ‘reviewing’ products and/or services! And it gets better on most of the sites – purchases or sign ups to clients’ sites/businesses also accrues earnings: and if you shop online anyway this is a great way to get a built in ‘rebate’ or ‘discount’ for your purchases!

As the quintessential Queen of, “I don’t have time to waste looking at commercials!” I must say that I’m impressed with the payouts of some of these new and innovative ‘commercial outlet’ sites! To their credit many require you view their sponsors’ sites for 60 seconds and less!

I also know that the internet has fads that come and go however, marketing and audiences are the bread and butter for nearly all businesses in existence! While the going is good I’m advising everyone to find their favorite commercials online – and get paid for doing so!

Below is a list of 2 sites that are still recruiting to build their membership to the ‘critical mass’ level of 5000 and are pitching $1000 and $2000 sign up bonuses to all that sign up before the quota is met:

  1. Money-Mails

  2. Red-Mails

Now, of course there IS the possibility of scams, hackers and just plain ne’er do wells in cyberspace that all of us need to be on the alert for. Luckily, yours truly, is always thinking about the flip side to all that she brings to the table for sharing and I also did some investigating into fraudulent email/ad pay to view sites so that it can’t be said that I willfully provided ’shaky’ information to my readers. There is a website, GTPBoycott that exists solely to gather information and expose those sites that are unscrupulous, etc. There are listings of sites cited for not paying as contracted along with sites on the ‘Watch List’ for those sites with five or fewer complaints. I found the listings to be recent [for the most part] and suggest that a thorough web search be made before joining any collective wherein earnings OR sales are offered. Further, none of the sites mentioned in this article appear in either list – which I checked AFTER viewing the sites and researching them.

That’s it in a nutshell: anyone can earn money, as in get paid, to view emails and/or ads from quite a few reputable sites just by investing 2 to 4 hours per day, week or month: it also increases your payout for recruiting others to join the sites, this is known as ‘referrals,’ however it is actually building a down line of active participants that generate additional revenues for your account.

Once upon a time, nearly 36 years ago, I had quite a bit of leisure time on my hands as I was expecting my first born child. While planning the nursery, and buying the layette I often watched TV as I scoured the mail order catalogs for bargains and items on my wish list. To be completely honest, I can’t remember one, not one, of the commercials that I may have viewed back then – however, had I been paid to watch and pay attention, I bet I could manage to recall and even sing a jingle or two. . .

Which just goes to show, your mind, memory and/or intellectual ‘mental’ property is just as precious as your bank account and BOTH need to be increased on a regular basis!

Priority #1: Promoting Your Internet Business

Setting up a top notch business website, offering high demand, quality goods and services simply isn’t enough to establish a steady flow of traffic to your site! Contrary to the highly acclaimed movie made in the 80s, if you build it they will NOT come – unless you advertise, promote and get the word out that you HAVE ‘built it’ and are ready to expertly serve your targeted customer base.

Since this ‘Being Self-Employed’ series of postings is basically directed at those that are both new to entrepreneurship and to internet business, I thought it would be a good idea to discuss marketing your online presence utilizing free resources. One relatively simple way to get accustomed to web marketing is to join ad or link exchange sites: this allows for you to get some exposure of your site AND view the ads of others in whatever system you join so that you can compare your site, your marketing strategies, your products, etc.

A few of the systems that I’ve reviewed [and some I've even used] are listed here. Each site has a slightly different ‘hook’, however, the main thing to keep in mind is gaining the experience of marketing your site WHILE exposing it to others – for FREE!

ASD Cash Generator: this is a system wherein you’re allowed to list several different websites [that you own] in order to place them in the ad ‘rotation’ with other member businesses. Interestingly, not all the businesses are ‘online,’ so ASD (Ad Surf Daily) Cash Generator also serves as a viable marketing tool for any type of business wanting exposure. The free membership requires you view 20 – 30 sites per login in order to accrue points which then are alloted to your sites. The points amount to the number of times your site(s) will be viewed by other members, so the more sites you view, the more points you generate and the more YOUR site is viewed by other ’surfers!’ ASD also has a paid ‘upgrade’ that I find to be rather expensive and other than putting your business into the rotation more frequently, I’m not convinced it is worth the cost. . .

AdFactory: this system boasts 1,000,000 free ads without the need for a membership upgrade. It is similar to ASD except it doesn’t require you surf any number of pages per day (or even at all!). Members place banner ads and/or text ads on their websites that promote AdFactory, which in turn allows people that click on member banner ads and/or text to view YOUR AdFactory page which promotes your advertised website prominently! After more than a month of membership, my stats showed only 8 ad views and 1 click thru. . . I’m not sure what happened to my 1 million free ads – perhaps it adds up over the course of membership. . .

BannersMania: here there are a few extremely helpful features: free banner creation for members, I find this to be very useful for anyone not having a clue as to how to create a banner [namely yours truly a few months ago]!; and free text link exchanges which helps to build search engine ranking.

As I find more useful [and even not so useful] sites I’ll report back and share the information with you. While ‘they’ may not come simply if you ‘build it,’ there ARE ways in which to let ‘them’ know where you are and become loyal customers!

Build Wealth Selling Hot Products Online!

Affiliate Marketing [aka Affiliate Programs]:

What it is and Why it Works

Starting an online or internet business can be either exciting, inclusive of it’s challenges or daunting and somewhat overwhelming as to what to do first and what to expect as a result of those efforts. Aside from the obvious need of having an online business location, also known as a website, there are a few things to take into consideration before launching your multi-million dollar venture.

  1. Do you have a needed product or service to sell? If the answer is yes then you’ll be more interested in my upcoming article ‘How to Sell Effectively Online.’ Of course reading the rest of THIS article can only make you wiser. . . If the answer is no, then you are in the right place at the right time to learn about selling other people’s products and getting paid to do so.

  2. Do you have an interest in selling products that you use and or want to use on a daily basis? This question is actually designed to help you think about what types of products most people are looking online to purchase: in recognizing that the average shopper is no different than yourself you can choose business partners, also known as affiliate programs, whose products you are familiar and comfortable with reviewing and recommending to others. The bonus to this is there are often discounts and buying incentives offered to affiliates [you, the seller] for personal purchases.

  3. Are you willing to learn how to manage a website? If the answer is no go ahead and read the rest of the article so that you’ll be able to share the information with someone you know or meet, because invariably many more people will be turning to online self-employment in the next few years. If you’ve answered yes then you will find my upcoming article ‘How to Set Up a FREE Business Website‘ very helpful. Managing a website is extremely simple for basic Affiliate program marketing AND can also be a way to share knowledge and advise to others if you use some of the many free features offered in website hosting such as blogs and/or forums.

Now that you’ve answered the three most important questions regarding starting an online business let’s get you headed in the best direction to generate passive income.

What Affiliate Marketing Is

Affiliate marketing is the use of your website to drive traffic to the website of your business partners – it is a form of online marketing, which quite a few advertisers are still overlooking. Affiliate marketing has not gained the popularity of SEO [search engine optimization] or e-zines, e-mail, RSS capture or ‘pay-per-click:’ it is a solid long term income generation tool and plays an important role in the success of an online business.

Being able to market someone else’s product is less demanding than designing, creating and/or manufacturing a product of your own and it doesn’t require stocking inventory, managing a catalog, shipping and handling, etc. You will have to come up with ideas for selling products, however most partners offer limitless affiliate training by way of webinars, emails, videos, conferences and the like. Affiliate marketing requires a lot of thinking, growth, and change. With a positive outlook and determination for success, along with a willingness to use fresh approaches ,you’ll be able to reap the benefits of affiliate marketing.

Building Your Internet Business

Going back to thinking of the products that you’d honestly recommend to others you can get started with clearly defining your market. Your market should look like you, your spouse, your children, family, friends and neighbors because that is the approach to take with your customers in order to build lasting relationships with them. Now you can focus on building an information-rich website that your market will WANT to visit. By only offering products that are relevant to your target market you can utilize your website to establish your integrity and provide expertise and knowledge to your customers.

As an online affiliate marketing entrepreneur it pays to create a strong email promotional campaign. So in the beginning stages of building your website be sure to design a strong opt-in offer containing useful and insightful FREE information pertinent to what your visitors are looking for. As your business grows continue to utilize email containing more useful free information in order to maintain the customer service relationship that you’ve created. Being consistent with serving your customers by sharing news, tips and product reviews, etc. with them develops a trust and respect for your information so that your email customers begin to look forward to getting updates from you. AND the beauty of that is your customers will more than likely share your emails and/or newsletters with THEIR email lists!

Another major plus for developing an affiliate program business is the building of a ‘down line’ sales force. This can be done in quite a few ways, too numerous to explore in detail in this article yet some discussion is required. First, aside from offering a strong opt-in email list you will also want to leverage your website by using technology such as e-books, autoresponders and other techniques to do a lot of the internet work and selling automatically for you. As you do so you’ll find customers and others interested in duplicating YOUR success that you can coach. These people will become affiliate marketers with YOUR business partners and that will generate additional streams of passive income for you. In the world of internet business in terms of affiliate marketing [as well as other ventures] it only takes one or two outstanding down line members to bring HUGE success to YOUR business. The more people that replicate your online business strategies and success the MORE income generated for you! Providing great customer service via the email, blog and other strategies that you’ll learn to use can easily inspire that one or two stellar beginning entrepreneurs in your down line to build their own internet empire allowing you to receive a lifetime of residual income!

Selecting Reputable Affiliate Programs/Companies

There are far too many internet scams and fly-by-night companies that are ripping honest people off every day. A few things you want to look for when selecting affiliate programs or partners is brand name recognition: how long has the company been in business? Are there any complaints against them in the better business bureau [online version]? Are the products they sell brand name? These are the questions and considerations that have to be made prior to contracting with affiliate programs or companies. Also, at NO TIME should you pay money to become an affiliate marketer! If a company wants you to work for them as an affiliate they are NOT going to ask you to PAY them! Avoid any company that asks you to pay to become an affiliate AND report them to your local state department of commerce immediately.

Working Your Business

Affiliate marketing is not the “pot of gold at the end of the rainbow” bringing instant online riches. It is a proven avenue to make substantial earnings promoting other people’s products via your website, email, newsletters, blogs and other technology campaigns.

Regardless of what type of online business or work at home venture you choose to engage in, the word ‘work’ is the operative: don’t expect to slap up a website, add a few affiliate links and make tons of money doing nothing! Your success will require your time and effort – however, if being able to walk around in your pajamas as you review a few products and make recommendations based on your findings to your customers and potential customers appeals to you, then that’s a lot of the work you’ll find yourself doing once you become an affiliate marketer!

How To Create a Billion Dollar Internet Business

Being Self Employed – How To Set-up a Business Website

Steps 1, 2 and 3

For those of you that have been following the series, “Being Self Employed. . .” with the 15 Pre-Launch steps systematically checked off of your ‘to do’ list, the creation of your online presence is the next order of business.

The numbers 3 and 5 figure prominently in my life: born in the 3rd month, on the 15th day in a year that ends with both the numbers 3 and 5 ‘kinda’ marks me for being in resonant affinity with those numbers. Which is probably why my ’steps’ often come to mind in blocks of 5. . . . For this particular series, the business website, in order to keep things simple [Keep It Simple Sweetie – KISS] there will be 3 steps to each aspect of successfully creating your web presence. That being said, let’s get started!

  1. Create a memorable and/or distinctive domain name. If you already have a following of customers for your home based or small business then by ALL means use the business name that is familiar to them. For example: you offer ‘in home’ pet sitting to people in your neighborhood and their families and friends. Generally you work 2 and 3 day weekends but are now ready to add week long ‘pet house sitting’ to your services. The city that you live in has a population of 100,000 and there are 10 pet shops that you frequent and you’re known at the local SPCA. You do some advertising by fliers, most of which are posted on public message boards around your neighborhood and your local library branch. All of your customers and potential customers know your service as ‘Annie Meyna – Pet Sitting at Your Service.’ Looking to acquire the domain name, AnnieMeyna.com would be an extremely wise first choice. I advise my customers to look also in the ‘.net,’ ‘.biz,’ and ‘.org’ domains for availability before giving up on the desired domain name. However, it is a good idea to have 2 – 5 alternate names, as ‘catchy’ or unique as possible, when doing your domain name search.

  2. Conduct a domain name search. Of course if there are some domain names that you’d like to use, knowing if they’re available requires a domain name search. MOST web hosting sites offer ‘free’ domain name searches. You simply type in the desired name into the search box and within a minute it’s availability is returned for your further decision making. Also, you can go to WHOIS, DomainSearch, and Name Droppers which are domain name search engines and purchase/registration services. [Please note that I am not affiliated with nor recommending doing business with either of the aforementioned entities.]

  3. Select a reputable hosting service. The web is FULL of web hosting companies and/or affiliates thereof. I am an affiliate for a few hosting services. I also own 2 domains and they are both hosted by different companies – neither of which I’m an affiliate of! Go figure. . . For my initial web host ’shopping’ I looked for services that had the lowest initial yearly cost, unlimited email accounts, unlimited sub-domains and 24/7 support services [although it appears that 24/7 only exists in alternate universes. . . .]. For the first year I received all of what I was looking for along with a pretty good control panel and some nice administrative ‘amenities’ [which means freebies that really add to the competitiveness of your site] all for under $25.00. In order to decide the type of control panel will be easiest for you to learn, you’ll have to contact the ’sales’ department of the potential host and inquire as to what their ‘back end’ or administrative control panel is. It appears that there are some control panel options that are fairly well used in the hosting communities such as VDeck, cPanel, etc. By clicking the links to VDeck and cPanel and reading the documentation, taking the tours, etc you can get a fair assessment for their ease of use. Certainly you can search the internet for ‘control panel software’ and come up with some additional options. At first the control panel wasn’t a major issue for me because I was determined to establish a web presence and I knew I’d learn to work whatever control panel I ended up with – it was a no brainer. NOW that I have brains, I want a really simple control panel that talks to me: says, Hello! when I log in; asks, How’s your day?; tells me my page hit stats and recommends new page layouts in line with the latest trends! That of course is something that some SUPER GEEK is working on this very moment and has yet to come to my attention, but I’m looking for it anyway. . . . In the meantime, do spend the time exploring the control panels offered by the hosting services that meet YOUR major criteria – doing so will give you a competitive edge in the do-it-yourself web management/design arena.

The best thing that I have found about surfing the internet for information, especially via articles and blogs, is most of what I want [in some cases wanted – when I run into a snag] to do has been done by some very intelligent, kind and sharing individuals AND is easily found when the right ‘keywords’ are entered into a search engine. And in light of all that I have gained by way of instruction, encouragement and plain old amusement on the world wide web, I trust that YOU are receiving note worthy assistance by way of reading my articles and blogs! Giving and Receiving is actually what makes the world a great place to be – for in the long run, and often in the short run, the good hearted giving is received and passed on in kind!

Taking the time to research domain names, site hosting and site management, which is what you’re about to engage in, is one of the most important investments you can make into your online business. Preparing for success is just like learning to walk – once you get your balance you can take off with ease!
